How to Baby-Proof Cabinets and Outlets

vmaisi Featured kits cover magnetic cabinet locks, adhesive latches, multi-use straps, outlet covers, and pressure-gate hardware. Count doors and drawers first, then match lock/key pack sizes and install method (adhesive vs screws). This guide follows titled pack counts only.

1. Count the cabinets

Magnetic kits list lock and key counts—10+2, 15+2, 32-pack, 34+4 with tool. Buy enough locks for every door and drawer you will secure, plus spare keys for adults.

Checklist

  • Doors and drawers counted
  • Lock count on the title ≥ openings you will lock
  • Key count enough for caregivers

2. Adhesive vs screw

Adhesive kits and no-drill U-shaped sliding locks avoid drilling. Some magnetic kits mention adhesive/screws together—pick the install your cabinets allow. Soft-close or thin doors may need the mount style shown on that parent’s page.

3. Outlet covers are separate

White and clear 38-pack outlet covers protect unused outlets. They do not replace cabinet locks. Use clear packs when you want the wall plate color to show through.

4. Gate hardware

Baby gate wall protectors (4-pack), 8mm spindle rods (4-pack), and Y-shaped 8mm adapters are for pressure gates. Match rod diameter to your gate before swapping parts.

5. Keep keys accessible

Store magnetic keys where adults can reach them quickly. Titles that include a tool call that out—keep the tool with the spare keys.

When to choose

  • Few cabinets, no drill → adhesive magnetic 10+2 / 15+2 or 24-pack latches
  • Whole kitchen → 32-pack or 34+4 kits
  • Trash / fridge / drawers beyond cabinets → multi-use straps
  • Unused outlets → 38-pack white or clear covers
  • Pressure gate refresh → wall protectors, 8mm rods, Y adapters

Install tips

Clean the surface before adhesive mounts. Test each lock with the key before loading the cabinet with cleaners or knives. Re-check gate spindle tightness after the first week of use.
